There are a handful of precepts that drive XBRL Cloud functionality. Once you understand these drivers, you will see why you need to use these services!
- Working with XBRL should be painless
-
XBRL, generally, requires many XML and XML Schema files. Managing lots of
files is complex. Using all of these files together is messy. Doing simple
operations (like looking at an XBRL report) is difficult at best. Doing complex
operations (like "instance editing") is next to impossible. What drives the
services provided herein is the intent to make XBRL really easy every step of
the way.
- Zero-install
-
Part of "easy" is not requiring you to install software. Lots of things can
be done today over the web, why not XBRL? Using browser-based software (also
known as Software as a Service), means that you can start right
now. Furthermore, it means that you never have to update your software:
Everytime you log into XBRL Cloud
you have the latest and greatest. This includes everything from minor updates
to major functionality upgrades.
- Predefined Reports & Interactive Views
-
There are a handful of semi-standard XBRL views. For example, most people who
have worked with XBRL for any amount of time might recognize the notion of a
"presentation tree", or a "concept grid". While there is no actual standard
for these, enough tools have implemented similar views that these are expected.
XBRL Cloud takes the notion of
standard views to a new plateau. This website offers many standard reports
(e.g., a presentation view), in many standard computer formats (XML, XHTML,
Excel, JSON, etc.). Furthermore, we offer "interactive" reports that are even more
useful to a business user.
The more reports we have available, the less customization you need to do. If
you have a great idea for a standard report or interactive view, please let us
know .
- Your Favorite Web Services APIs
-
In addition to standard functionality available on the website, some people
may wish to write their own XBRL applications. Regardless of whether you are
a casual self-trained VB programmer, or a hard-core degreed Java or C# developer,
you will find one of the XBRL Cloud
APIs extremely easy to use.
